Riyadh Air and Saudia have launched the first phase of a strategic codeshare agreement that links the Riyadh‑based carrier’s Offer‑Order platform with the Saudi carrier’s passenger service system, a move aimed at expanding flight options for both domestic and international passengers.
First phase of the partnership goes live
The agreement, rooted in a memorandum signed in November 2023, activates a codeshare on six domestic routes from King Khalid International Airport. The Riyadh‑based airline will place its “RX” designator on Saudia‑operated flights to Abha, Al Qassim, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina and Tabuk.
Travelers can now book a single ticket that combines a Riyadh Air flight with a connecting Saudia service. For example, a passenger departing Dammam can fly to Riyadh and continue to Madrid without changing reservations.
A single‑ticket itinerary also means luggage can be checked through to the final destination, and passengers benefit from coordinated schedules that align with the arrival or departure times of the Riyadh Air leg.

Technical integration details
The two airlines have linked their reservation systems so that the “RX” code appears on Saudia’s daily flights between Riyadh and the six covered cities. This required coordination between the airlines’ IT teams and external providers FLYR, INK and Amadeus.
According to the filing, the integration supports both carriers operating under one roof in Terminal 1‑4 of the Riyadh hub, allowing for swift transfers and shared use of check‑in counters.
Passenger perks and service enhancements
Business Class travelers on the codeshare flights will gain access to Saudia lounges at departure points within the Kingdom and at Riyadh’s Terminal 4. Fast‑track security and priority boarding are also extended where available.
The chief commercial officers of both airlines highlighted the collaboration. Vincent Coste said integrating different technology environments is a core principle of the Riyadh‑based airline’s digital model. Arved von zur Muehlen noted the codeshare offers greater choice and connectivity across the Kingdom.

From a broader perspective, this type of deep system integration is still rare in the region, where many carriers rely on simple interline agreements rather than full platform connectivity. The move could set a template for future partnerships, especially as airlines look to digitize booking experiences.
Plans for expansion
Both carriers intend to roll out reciprocal loyalty benefits, allowing members of Saudia’s Alfursan program and Riyadh Air’s Sfeer program to earn and redeem miles on each other’s flights. A lounge access agreement for eligible guests at key airports is also in the works.
In later months, Saudia plans to place its “SV” designator on Riyadh Air‑operated services that meet demand, further broadening the network for the Saudi carrier’s passengers.
